The LZ-8/POL is a simple passive power supply distributor designed to deliver power from a single high-capacity power source to multiple devices. It splits the input into 8 outputs, each protected by a polymer fuse and featuring an output voltage indicator (the corresponding LED lights up when voltage is present at the output). If an output is overloaded, the resistance and temperature of the polymer fuse increase (>100°C), causing the LED indicator to turn off. Only a minimal current flows through the heated fuse, and after the overload ends, the fuse automatically resets to its previous state.
The device is equipped with jumpers for easy deactivation of individual outputs. The LZ-8/POL features two parallel power inputs, allowing connection via either a DC 5.5/2.1 socket or a terminal block. This design enables multiple LZ-8/POL distributors to be linked in series—for example, the main supply can be connected to the DC IN socket of the first unit, and its input terminal block can be connected via a two-core cable (e.g., WT-2.1) to the input of a second LZ-8/POL. Depending on current consumption, the voltage drop across the polymer fuses is 160mV at I=0.5A and 300mV at I=0.7A. During overload, the fuse heats up to over 100°C, so the device should not be used in environments exceeding 40°C.
It is ideal for use with 5.5/2.1mm plugs and YAP75 cables, commonly used in camera installations. A standard CCTV YAP75-0.59/3.7+2x0.5 cable has two 0.5mm² wires. The theoretical resistance is 3.4Ω/100m, while manufacturer data states 5.5Ω/100m. When powering cameras with 12V DC over CCTV YAP75 cable, assuming a voltage drop to 11V, power can be delivered over the distances shown in the table below. These are the maximum distances for powering 12V cameras over YAP-75-0.59/3.7+2x0.5 cable.
Max. current | Max. distance at R=3.4Ω/100m | Max. distance at R=5.5Ω/100m |
150mA camera | 98 meters | 60 meters |
650mA camera + thermostat | 22 meters | 14 meters |
An unquestionable advantage of using the LZ-8/POL in centrally powered monitoring systems is the added protection against intentional sabotage. Without individual protection for each power line, an intruder could disable the entire system by short-circuiting the supply to a single camera.
